The Deer Hunter

I spent four hours watching The Deer Hunter this weekend.  If you have not seen it, see it.  And then, when you’ve done the deed and are emotionally exhausted, look up all the fun trivia on IMDB and Wiki.

I don’t do movie reviews anymore – I have been informed that I have nothing original to say and really, who does?  From now on it’s just a see it or don’t see it.  Simple.

The only bad thing about the movie is the actual killing of the deer – stunt deer indeed, Douglas!

Christopher Walken, you rock – no surprise you won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Veggie McNation

I wanted to email McDonald’s in the US to implore them to make a veggie Big Mac.  However, the online form was only available to residents of the US (or to people of other nations who lie I suppose).

On the Canadian site I was informed that I needed to write an actual letter to communicate my message to them.  So I decided that I would save a stamp and simply make a public announcement of my suggestion that McDonald’s make a veggie Big Mac.  And not with those nasty veggie patties, but with those patties that Harvey’s uses that actually look like a meat patty (they taste much better too).

Then I could enjoy McDonald’s again for I sorely miss their fries (but what’s the point if that’s all you’re going to buy?).

Anyways, just a thought…

Family Reunion – 40th Wedding Anniversary

Forty years ago when my Mother was quite pregnant with me, she and my Father went to the wedding of my Aunt Judy and soon-to-be Uncle Brian.

This event was the celebration of their 40th anniversary.  Probably of no interest to anyone but family and friends, but it’s a nice photo that my Father executed after only one test shot.  His one instruction to us ‘be sure you can see the camera, otherwise you won’t be in the shot’.  I could see the camera but just barely.  A very tall man was standing in front of me.  I think it’s interesting that my cousin, Carrie, and I have the darkest hair there (her mother is the daughter of my Dad’s sister).  Growing up we looked so similar we could have been sisters.  We still look an awful lot alike.  I’ll point that out when you get to the photo…

I hope this link works:   http://www.flickr.com/photos/zuccheropiede/

Dad, I know a lot of people like to know what kind of camera people use when taking photos so you might want to include that in a comment….I’m afraid I don’t really know the details.

Sweet Dreams

Last night I had the most wonderful dream about Paul McCartney.  I have dreams about famous people a lot.  And the strange thing is that when I wake up I feel as if I really got to know the person, or that I have known them for a long time.

My brother says that all characters in our dreams are merely aspects of ourselves (I’m sure I don’t have that 100% correct but the gist is there).  I have no idea who Paul represents in terms of my personality or unresolved issues.  I do know that I think he is still attractive although he is 25 years older than me.  I think it’s those droopy, puppy-dog eyes; they look so sensitive.  There I go talking like a girl…

In the dream we went on a vacation together.  There was some sort of trouble with the transportation but I think it worked itself out.  My cat, Daisy, woke me up about 4 times in the morning playing with a wicker basket.  The last time I got up and locked her in the bathroom.  My other cat promptly peed on the bag of laundry on the floor so I suppose feline/feline loyalty is greater than feline/human loyalty.  Either that or he really had to go and couldn’t get into the bathroom to do so.  Anyways, my point is that my cat woke me up 4 times and each time I went back to sleep to the same dream.

I wish I could remember more of it.

I wish I could go back again tonight.

Sweet dreams, and as my Mum always said ’sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite’.

Name-calling, at it’s Best…

The Fool (also known as the Seeker):

(Tarot - 0: The Fool)

As Card 0, the Fool lies at the beginning of the major arcana, but also somewhat apart from the other cards. In medieval courts, the court jester was someone who was not expected to follow the same rules as others. He could observe and then poke fun. This makes the Fool unpredictable and full of surprises. He reminds us of the unlimited potential and spontaneity inherent in every moment. There is a sense with this card that anything goes – nothing is certain or regular. The Fool adds the new and unfamiliar to a situation.

The Fool also represents the complete faith that life is good and worthy of trust. Some might call the Fool too innocent, but his innocence sustains him and brings him joy. In readings, the Fool can signal a new beginning or change of direction – one that will guide you onto a path of adventure, wonder and personal growth. He also reminds you to keep your faith and trust your natural responses. If you are facing a decision or moment of doubt, the Fool tells you to believe in yourself and follow your heart no matter how crazy or foolish your impulses may seem.

The Devil:

The Devil is the card of self-bondage to an idea or belief which is preventing us from growing—an example could include believing that getting drunk each night is good for you. On the other hand, however, it can also be a warning to someone who is too restrained and/or dispassionate and never allows him or herself to be rash or wild or ambitious, which is yet another form of enslavement.

The Devil is the 15th card of the Major Arcana, and is associated with earth and Capricornus. Though many decks portray a stereotypical Satan figure for this card, it more accurately represents our bondage to material things rather than any evil persona. It also indicates an obsession or addiction to fulfilling our own earthly base desires. Should the Devil represent a person, it will most likely be one of money and power, one who is persuasive, aggressive, and controlling. In any case, it is most important that the Querent understands that the ties that bind are freely worn, and you are only enslaved if you allow the abuse to go on.

The Sorceress:

The Queen of Wands draws attention to the qualities of creativity, loyalty, intuition, hard work and commitment. These positive characteristics either become more developed in you or are brought to you through contact with an individual with these qualities.

The Queen is a powerful sorceress mixing an alchemical brew. Behind her is a quilt denoting her artistic skill and meditative qualities. To her right is her black cat sitting under a harvest moon and an autumn tree with golden leaves of words. The queen is not only creative but is also a transformative force for others. Scattered on her table are charms, a talisman, a bag of Runes and a Tarot deck displaying the Queen of Wands card. The Queen of Wands is an archetypal image who lives within each of us and stokes our creative fires.

When God gives you lemons, make lemonade.
